Dam supplying water to Bodrum reaches dead storage level: DSI cuts off water

The Mumcular Dam, which has a water storage capacity of 19 thousand 40 cubic meters, a body height of 32 meters, and is used for the irrigation of 1 thousand 365 hectares of land in addition to providing drinking and utility water for Bodrum, was also shut down last year because the water amount reached the dead storage level.

WATER CUTS BEGIN

In a statement made by the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, it was stated, “Due to the drought experienced in recent years, increased water usage, the effects of climate change, and changes in precipitation regimes, significant losses have been experienced in the water resources of our city. For this reason, decreases are observed in the water resources of many of our districts, especially Bodrum. In this context, due to the fact that the Mumcular Dam, one of the important sources providing drinking water to the Bodrum Peninsula, has fallen to the dead storage level, the DSI General Directorate has had to cut off the water transmitted to Bodrum. Due to these regulations, there will be a 20-hour water cut in the Yokuşbaşı, Kumbahçe, Umurça, and Cevatşakir neighborhoods; and a 16-hour water cut in the Çarşı, Türkkuyusu, Yeniköy, Eskiçeşme, Gümbet, Cumhuriyet, and Tepecik neighborhoods.”

WATER SUPPLEMENT TO BE PROVIDED FROM GEYİK DAM

Due to the Mumcular Dam's water level reaching the dead storage level, water will be supplemented from the Geyik Dam to the Mumcular Dam within the framework of alternative solutions.

In the statement, it was said, “With the closure of the Mumcular Dam, arrangements are being made at our Mumcular Drinking Water Treatment Plant to receive water from the Geyik Dam. Following the work carried out, water will be taken from the Geyik Dam to our Mumcular Drinking Water Treatment Plant, and water will begin to be supplied to the specified regions. During this process, while the Mumcular Dam is closed, it is of vital importance that our citizens use water more sparingly. As the MUSKİ General Directorate, we would like it to be known that our work continues to include both underground and surface water resources in the system and to solve Bodrum's problem with additional projects. We will implement our new projects as soon as possible to eliminate the peninsula's water shortage and ensure our citizens can breathe a sigh of relief.”
