Dams in Istanbul are sounding the alarm

According to the latest data published by the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), the occupancy rates of the dams supplying water to the megacity of Istanbul have fallen to worrying levels due to the impact of insufficient rainfall.

İSKİ data revealed that the average occupancy rate in the dams has experienced a sharp decline over the last four months. The average occupancy rate, which was 66.23 percent on June 30, was recorded at 23.18 percent as of October 29.

LATEST STATUS OF THE DAMS

Significant differences are observed in the occupancy rates among the dams. While the highest water volume is found in the Elmalı Dam at 53.85 percent, the lowest occupancy rate was measured in the Kazandere Dam at 2.13 percent.

According to İSKİ data, as of October 29, the dam occupancy rates in Istanbul are as follows:

Alibey Dam 11.96 percent

Büyükçekmece Dam 27.2 percent

Darlık Dam 35.38 percent

Elmalı Dam 53.85 percent

Istrancalar Dam 19.41 percent

Kazandere Dam 2.13 percent

Pabuçdere Dam 4.78 percent

Sazlıdere Dam 24.65 percent

Terkos Dam 26.91 percent

Ömerli Dam 17.34 percent
