Dardanelles closed to one-way traffic due to ship breakdown
Teams have been dispatched to the area for a ship that suffered a mechanical failure while transiting the Dardanelles.
The engines of the 247-meter-long Panama-flagged fuel tanker "Paros", which was traveling from Malta to Kocaeli, broke down off the coast of Gelibolu during its transit through the strait.
After the ship's captain informed the Dardanelles Vessel Traffic Services Directorate (VTS), the "Kurtarma-4" and "Kurtarma 16" tugboats belonging to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM) were dispatched to address the breakdown.
Captains of other vessels scheduled to pass through the strait were warned via radio announcements.
The Dardanelles has been temporarily closed to ship traffic in the north-to-south direction due to the breakdown.
