DASK announces: 4 out of 10 homes are uninsured!
The 6.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sea of Marmara has once again brought the importance of compulsory earthquake insurance to the agenda. While the insurance rate in Istanbul remains at 62 percent, this rate has been determined as 56 percent across Turkey.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri yesterday at 12:49 PM took place on the Central Marmara segment of the North Anatolian Fault Zone. Many aftershocks were recorded following the earthquake.
This event served as a reminder of the importance of earthquake insurance. Although interest in insurance has increased following the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, many homes still lack Compulsory Earthquake Insurance. According to data obtained from the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK), the insurance rate in Istanbul is 62 percent, with approximately 2.6 million policies in place.

4 OUT OF 10 HOMES HAVE NO EARTHQUAKE INSURANCE
Across Turkey, the insurance rate stands at 56 percent. While the Marmara Region has the highest insurance rate at 64 percent, the Black Sea Region has the lowest rate at 45 percent. Yalova reached the highest insurance rate in Marmara with 83 percent, while Bilecik has the lowest rate at 47 percent.
DASK stated that citizens with insured structures damaged after the earthquake can make damage reports by calling the 'ALO 125' hotline, or through the 'www.dask.gov.tr' website and the e-Government Gateway. DASK secures residences against earthquakes and disasters directly caused by earthquakes. With the Compulsory Earthquake Insurance practice that began on September 27, 2000, efforts to increase insurance awareness continue.
