Data released: Turkey surpasses Afghanistan in asylum applications to Germany
In the first 10 months of 2024, Turkey ranked third in asylum applications to Germany, following Syria and Afghanistan. In October, 2,726 asylum applications were made from Turkey. With this figure, Turkey moved into second place in October.
The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has released figures regarding asylum applications.
According to the data released on November 8, a total of 217,780 asylum applications were made to Germany in the January-October period.
The number of asylum applications in the first 10 months remained below the applications in 2023. The number of initial applications was recorded as 199,947. Between January and October of last year, this number was 267,000.
TURKEY IS THIRD AFTER SYRIA AND AFGHANISTAN
According to a report by DW Türkçe, in the ranking of countries making applications, Turkey ranked third in the first 10 months of 2024 with 27,494 applications, following Syria and Afghanistan.
In the January-October period, a total of 68,842 applications were made from Syria and 32,062 from Afghanistan.
Iraq, which follows Turkey, had a total of 8,002 applications, and Somalia, in fifth place, had 6,991 applications.
TURKEY SURPASSED AFGHANISTAN IN OCTOBER
While a total of 19,785 applications were recorded in October of this year, Turkey moved into second place with 2,726 applications.
Syria is in first place with 7,543, and Afghanistan is in third place with 2,320.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees reported that 45.7 percent of the applications were accepted.
