Date set for Timur Cihantimur's court appearance

In Eyüpsultan on March 1, 2024, 17-year-old unlicensed driver Timur Cihantimur struck three ATV-type vehicles parked on the side of the road due to a breakdown while he was driving. As a result of the accident, 29-year-old Oğuz Murat Aci lost his life, and other individuals present at the scene were injured.

Following the accident, Cihantimur's mother, Eylem Tok, allegedly collaborated with individuals including his father, Bülent Cihantimur, to spirit her son away from the scene of the accident and subsequently take him abroad.

The investigation into Timur Cihantimur regarding the incident has been completed, and it has been requested that he be sentenced to between 1 year and 9 months and 12 years in prison for the crime of "causing death and injury by conscious negligence," taking into account that he was 17 years old at the time of the incident. Furthermore, a red notice request was issued for Cihantimur, and it was stated that his extradition from the U.S. is awaited.

If extradition procedures are completed, he will appear before a judge on July 8

The prepared indictment was accepted by the Gaziosmanpaşa 4th High Criminal Court. Following the acceptance of the indictment, the court prepared an interim order. The document stated that the defendant fled abroad after the date of the act, and although he remained in custody or detention in a foreign country for a period, it was decided that the defendant's detention status should continue and that witnesses should be heard during the trial.

On the other hand, it was also reported that if the extradition proceedings currently underway in the U.S. are completed and Timur Cihantimur is brought to Turkey, he will appear before a judge on July 8 at 13:30.
