Breaking his silence after the decision to cancel Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma, Ahmet Davutoğlu made the following statement on his social media account:
I am ashamed!
As an academic, I am ashamed that one of Turkey's most deep-rooted universities has cancelled a diploma it issued 31 years ago, disregarding its own institutional identity!
As a politician, I am ashamed that politics has become this ugly!
As a statesman, I am ashamed that the highest office of the state is being sought not through ideas and visions, but through "diploma wars"!
Shame on those who brought our country to this point!
