Davutoğlu makes statement on alliance and merger! He calls on the opposition

Meeting with members of the press at the Parliament, Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu stated that polarization in Turkey's political system has gathered both the government and the opposition into two main blocks.

According to the report in Cumhuriyet, Davutoğlu expressed that the Presidential Government System weakens the influence of the opposition and that the current government gains an advantage as general trends divide within themselves. He assessed, “In the presidential government system, every path where one does not come together means the continuation of the existing status quo.”

Recalling the establishment phase of the Yeniyol Group, Davutoğlu said that they had clearly argued for the necessity of an electoral alliance at that time. Referring to the meetings they held with the New Welfare Party, DEVA Party, and Felicity Party at the beginning of the year, Davutoğlu used the expressions, “The right thing is to consolidate votes by merging if possible, and by forming an alliance if not. The system Turkey is in makes this mandatory.” He also expressed his hope that the negotiations would reach a positive conclusion in the near future.

HE CRITICIZED CHP: EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THEIR PLACE

Reacting to rumors that his party group in Parliament would dissolve, Davutoğlu described these claims as part of political pressure. Stating that pressure is being exerted on deputies by both the government and the opposition, Davutoğlu expressed his trust in his deputies by using the phrase, “He who resigns loses.” Directing criticism at the CHP, Davutoğlu pointed to the pressures within the opposition by saying, “When did the CHP ever exceed 48 percent? Everyone should know their place.”

Furthermore, Davutoğlu argued that deputies who switch to different parties lose their social identities. Citing Serap Yazıcı Özbudun joining the AKP as an example, he asked, “Was Serap Yazıcı using the parliamentary podium when she was with us, or in the party she went to?” He then addressed his deputies with these words:

“Those with character resist. The group will not dissolve. A deputy who leaves will be held accountable before history.”

Finally, while stating that it is necessary to maintain group integrity, Davutoğlu warned that it is not right to go to elections in the current state, saying, “It is not right for this group to go to elections in this way. One must proceed either by merging or by forming an electoral alliance.” Emphasizing that this is a call that concerns not only the Future Party but the entire opposition, Davutoğlu stated that otherwise, the current political order will not change.
