Dawn operation in Ankara: 209 people detained ahead of NATO Summit

As part of security measures taken in Ankara ahead of the NATO Summit, operations were carried out at numerous addresses in the early morning hours. The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that detention warrants were issued for a total of 241 individuals as part of investigations into various organizations, and that 209 of them have been taken into custody.

Following the ban decisions taken by the Ankara Governor's Office due to the NATO Summit, police operations were carried out at numerous addresses across the city in the early hours of the morning.

Within the scope of the operations, a large number of people, stated to be active in various political and social structures, were detained.

LAWYER RESTRICTION FOR DETAINEES

It was stated that a 24-hour restriction on meeting with lawyers has been applied to the individuals taken into custody.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In a statement made by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that detention warrants were issued as part of efforts to uncover the activities of terrorist organizations across the country.

The following statements were included in the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's statement:

“Within the scope of the work carried out under the coordination of our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to decipher the actions and activities of terrorist organizations across the country; as a result of the work carried out by the Ankara Provincial Police Department Counter-Terrorism Branch: 30 suspects linked to the DAESH terrorist organization, 23 linked to the DSİH terrorist organization, 22 linked to the TKP/ML terrorist organization, 20 linked to the TKİP terrorist organization, 16 linked to the MLKP terrorist organization, 16 linked to the DKP/BÖG organization, 12 linked to the DHKP/C terrorist organization, and 9 linked to the THKP/C terrorist organization, totaling 148 suspects; and as a result of the work carried out by the Ankara Provincial Gendarmerie Command Counter-Terrorism Branch: 44 suspects linked to the TPK/ML terrorist organization, 26 linked to the DAESH terrorist organization, and 23 linked to DHKP-C – MLKP, totaling 93 suspects; detention warrants have been issued for a total of 241 suspects, and 209 of these suspects have been taken into custody.”
