Death toll rises in tragic accident in Van
The number of people who lost their lives in the collision between a passenger minibus and a pickup truck in the Gürpınar district of Van has risen to 8.
The death toll has increased following a tragic traffic accident in Van.
Six people died at the scene and 14 others were injured when a pickup truck with license plate 06 BYD 614, driven by Erkan Koç, collided with a passenger minibus with license plate 34 GCR 604, driven by Dindar Engin, near the Güzeldere Tunnel on the Gürpınar-Başkale highway.
While Erkan Koç, Metin Kandemir, Mehmet Yacan, Selim Kaya, Fadıl Korkmaz, and Yıldız Erik lost their lives at the scene, the injured—Melike Alkaya, Meryem Aksu, Yunus Şimşek, Rukiye Kurt, Nazlı Aksu, Sabri Erik, Gülcan Kaya, Şaban Karadana, Dindar Engin, Umut Kanat, Ferhat Tan, Hasan Ovacık, Turan Toprak, and Sümbül Ağacanoğlu—were transported to hospitals in the city. Despite all medical interventions, Gülcan Kaya and the minibus driver, Dindar Engin, could not be saved. It was stated that the treatment of the other 12 injured individuals is ongoing.
