Decision from Edip Akbayram's family regarding Kılıçdaroğlu

As discussions continue in the CHP following the "absolute nullity" decision, Türkü Akbayram, the daughter of artist Edip Akbayram, and artist Zülfü Livaneli have announced that they will not permit their works to be used by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his supporters.

It had drawn attention that Edip Akbayram's song "Meydan Türküsü" was played before the speech Kılıçdaroğlu gave yesterday at the CHP Headquarters.

STATEMENT FROM TÜRKÜ AKBAYRAM

In a statement made on her social media account on behalf of herself and her mother, Türkü Akbayram stated that they would not permit the use of works belonging to Edip Akbayram.

The statement included the following:

"We, on behalf of the people's artist, our dear husband and father Edip Akbayram, wished to share this brief statement with the public due to the necessity we felt.

We are following the developments in our country, especially those recently experienced within the Republican People's Party (CHP), with attention and sadness.

Throughout his life, Edip Akbayram has been an artist who believed in democracy, freedom, the will of the people, and social justice; he produced his art in line with these values. This stance, which he has maintained uncompromisingly for years, has been one of the fundamental principles not only of his art but also of his life.

In this context, we would like to express that we believe the process known in the public eye as 'absolute nullity' and the developments that have accompanied it do not align with the democratic understanding that Edip Akbayram defended throughout his life.

It is not possible for us to ignore the concerns, grievances, and sensitivities regarding democracy that have found resonance in broad segments of society.

For this reason, we declare that we do not permit the works interpreted by Edip Akbayram to be used in political events by individuals, groups, and organizations seen as representatives or supporters of the absolute nullity process in the public eye, and we present this to the information of the public.

Our sensitivity is to ensure that Edip Akbayram's art and legacy are kept alive in a manner consistent with the principles and values he defended for years.

We present this with respect to the understanding and appreciation of the public."
