Çiğdem Yankılıç Kangal, the sister of the wife of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat—who was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation and temporarily suspended from his duties—had been taken into custody.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had reported that the reason for the detention was the allegation of "laundering assets derived from crime."
According to Ekol TV, following the procedures and statements provided after being referred to the courthouse, Çiğdem Yankılıç Kangal was released under judicial control conditions, which include a travel ban and a requirement to report to authorities.
