Decision reached regarding the association president who brought rabid dogs to Ankara from Şanlıurfa!
One of the two suspects detained on allegations of bringing dogs carrying the disease to Ankara has been arrested.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation yesterday following reports that dogs under quarantine from a region in Şanlıurfa where rabies cases were detected had been brought to Ankara.
During an operation conducted by the Police Department as part of the investigation, M.S.D., who was identified as having brought the dogs to the city by vehicle, was apprehended in the Gölbaşı district with 27 dogs, 13 of which were puppies.
2 DOGS DIED ON THE WAY
In his statement, M.S.D. claimed that he set out to bring 29 sick dogs to Ankara on behalf of the Yaşama Tutunan Patililer Derneği (Association for Paws Holding onto Life) from an animal shelter in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa, that 2 dogs died on the way, and argued that he did not act with the intent to commit a crime.
Buket Ö.B., President of the Yaşama Tutunan Patililer Derneği, who was detained yesterday at Esenboğa Airport in connection with the incident, and M.S.D. were referred to the Ankara Courthouse following their processing at the police station.
ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT ARRESTED
Following their statements to the prosecutor, the suspects were referred to the judgeship on charges of "violating the animal protection law." Buket Ö.B. was arrested, while M.S.D. was released under judicial control.

Meanwhile, following the suspect's arrest, some association members attacked journalists waiting outside the criminal judgeship of peace. A journalist whose t-shirt was torn during the attack was slightly injured.
