Decision regarding the court panel that released a drug gang leader

The 15th High Criminal Court panel had decided to release Abdullah Alp Üstün, who managed the Turkish wing of Dutch drug baron Leijdekkers.

Following the scandalous decision, the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) took action. The 15th High Criminal Court President Oktay A. and court members Arzu A. and Veysi G., who issued the release decision for Üstün, have been suspended.

ALTHOUGH THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OBJECTED TO THE RELEASE DECISION, ALL DEFENDANTS FLED

According to the report by Dilhan Dumanoğlu from Sabah, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to the court's release decision. Accepting the objection, the Istanbul 16th High Criminal Court ordered the re-arrest of Abdullah Alp Üstün, his son Efe Alp Üstün, Aziz Demir, Bahadır Mert Oğur, Eric Schroeder, Selçuk Aydın, and Wilhelmus Adrianus Leijdekkers. However, it was learned that all the defendants have fled and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

ALLEGATION OF A 720 THOUSAND DOLLAR AGREEMENT FOR RELEASE

In the report prepared by inspectors and sent to the HSK 2nd Chamber, a tip-off received by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office via email was included. The tip-off alleged that one day before the hearing where they were released, Oktay A. and Abdullah Alp Üstün and the gang members had agreed with the court president on 720 thousand dollars for the release decision.
