DECISION TO CONTINUE FURKAN KARABAY'S DETENTION
According to Can Öztürk from T24, the Istanbul 25th High Criminal Court has issued a decision to continue the detention of journalist Furkan Karabay, who has been imprisoned for 152 days.
Journalist Furkan Karabay, who was acquitted on October 2 (2025) of charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information" and "insult" regarding his reporting and social media posts on the investigation into Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, was sentenced to a fine of 42 thousand 500 TL for "targeting" Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, with the announcement of the verdict deferred. However, Karabay's detention continues due to another case in which he is being tried.
Considering the potential sentence, the court ruled to continue his detention on the grounds that the time Karabay has spent in custody is "proportionate" and that judicial control provisions would be insufficient.
