Defne Samyeli's outcry over Fatih Altaylı: 'It's that kind of era...'
Defne Samyeli reacted to the detention of journalist Fatih Altaylı on allegations of 'threatening the president'.
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s chief advisor Oktay Saral had targeted journalist Fatih Altaylı with the words 'Altaylı, your water is heating up,' and Altaylı was detained yesterday evening.
In a statement regarding Altaylı's detention, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated: "An ex officio investigation has been initiated for the crime of 'Threatening the President' due to the threatening remarks targeting our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the broadcast dated 20/06/2025 on the 'Youtube' channel bearing his own name, and the aforementioned individual has been apprehended and detained in accordance with the instructions given to the Istanbul Police Department."
Actress and singer Defne Samyeli also reacted to Altaylı's detention.
Sharing a post on her Instagram account, Samyeli rebelled against the decision and used the following expressions:
"They took Fatih Altaylı in for doing journalism. And they did it after openly threatening him beforehand. Because it's that kind of era. I want to believe that he will be released as soon as possible, but I cannot be sure. Again... Because it's that kind of era. There is a reality that everyone will be judged forever in the 'conscience' for the journalism they did/did not do, and for what they said/did not say. We stand behind Fatih."
