DEM Party Akdeniz Co-Mayors detained

While the new resolution process, which began with the call from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli and became more concrete with the DEM Party's meeting with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, continues, news of detentions has come from the DEM Party-run Akdeniz Municipality.

An investigation was launched by the Provincial Security Directorate teams under the coordination of the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against those accused of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization," "being a member of an armed terrorist organization," "violating the Law on the Prevention of the Financing of Terrorism," and "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911."

Within the scope of the investigation, Akdeniz Mayor Hoşyar Sarıyıldız, Deputy Mayor and Council Member Nuriye Arslan, and Akdeniz Municipality DEM Party council members Özgür Çağlar, Neslihan Oruç, Yakup Danış, and Hikmet Bakırhan were detained.

On the other hand, following the operation, security measures were taken around the Akdeniz Municipal building by water cannon vehicles (TOMA) and riot police teams.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM DEM PARTY

DEM Party Mersin MP Ali Bozan announced this morning that Akdeniz Co-Mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, as well as municipal council members, had been detained.

In a statement on his social media account, Bozan claimed that the detentions were part of a political plan and used the following expressions:

“Our Akdeniz Co-Mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan and our council members were detained as a result of a political setup. The peace in Mersin is once again being disrupted by the threat of a trustee. However, the people of Mersin will not bow down to this usurpation of will. We invite all our people and elected representatives to protect the will of the Akdeniz Municipality.”

Akdeniz Belediye Eşbaşkanlarımız Hoşyar Sarıyıldız ve Nuriye Arslan ile Meclis üyelerimiz siyasi kumpasla gözaltına alındı.
