DEM Party MPs march to the Ministry of Interior
DEM Party Group Deputy Chairs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli, along with numerous MPs, marched to the Ministry of Interior to protest the decision to appoint a trustee to the Hakkari Municipality.
Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy Chairs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli held a press statement in front of the Parliament to protest the appointment of a trustee to the municipality following the detention of Hakkari Mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış on June 3.
During the statement, which was attended by many DEM Party MPs, signs reading "Trustees are a coup" and "Municipalities are ours, we will not allow usurpation" were carried.
"WE KNOW THE COUP WILL SPREAD TO THE ENTIRE COUNTRY"
Gülistan Koçyiğit pointed out that the trustee coup poses a threat of spreading to the entire country and spoke as follows:
“We have said much against the trustee regime. Elections were held on March 31, and the government itself emphasized a new era. They stated that they had received the messages given by the voters. But they have not received any of the messages given by the voters. On the contrary, they have launched an attack against society, against the people, against the will of the ballot box, and against democracy once again. It is significant that they started this attack attempt from Hakkari. Because the only way for this regime to survive is to attack the Kurds.
It is built on rendering the ballot box meaningless and usurping the will that emerges from it. However, we know very well that the lawlessness committed in Hakkari, the coup against the popular will in Hakkari, will not be limited to Hakkari, and that this coup will spread to the entire country step by step. Everyone across Turkey needs to stand against this lawlessness. If we defend democracy together, we can win together. The entire public knows that none of the accusations and allegations made by the Ministry of Interior are in the case file."
THEY MARCHED TO THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR
Following the statement, DEM Party MPs began a march toward the Ministry of Interior with the demand for a meeting, chanting slogans of "Trustees are a coup, no to the coup."
