DEM Party reacts to President Erdoğan staying in the background on the İmralı process: 'We infer a lot from what he doesn't say'

DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit evaluated the detention of the Co-Mayors of the Mersin Akdeniz Municipality while a new process is underway, stating, "The path of those who intend to find a solution is not through the appointment of trustees." 

Koçyiğit stated that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has remained in the background of the discussions, saying, "Frankly, we also do not understand why he still has not spoken at all. They are in a position that considers base politics more. It is very clear and obvious that he needs to say something. We infer a lot from what he does not say."

Koçyiğit said, "The difference in this period is that the discussions are being conducted through Mr. Bahçeli. We see that he is paving the way for the discussions. We see that the President is standing further back. We have not yet heard him express that he owns these discussions, that he is the true subject of this matter, that as the government they will support it, or that he will do everything in his power to ensure it is resolved. This is our expectation.

The entire public is also waiting for this. What will this achieve? For example, it would be a first-hand answer to all these trust issues and sincerity problems we are currently discussing. It would ensure that social consensus is formed, matured, and deepened," she said. 

Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit visited the Parliamentary Correspondents Association for the January 10 Working Journalists Day, congratulated the journalists, and answered questions regarding the agenda.
