DEM Party reacts to Yılmaz Tunç's remarks! 'Isn't it your government...'

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları evaluated current developments during her speech at her party's group meeting.

Recalling the ECHR's ruling regarding Selahattin Demirtaş in her statement, Hatimoğulları said, "ECHR rulings are not being implemented even though they are final. The prisoners of the Kobani conspiracy case and the Gezi Park protests should not remain inside for even a second."

'YOU ARE THE ONES POLITICIZING THE JUDICIARY'

Criticizing Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç again following the tension in April, Hatimoğulları reacted by saying, "The Minister of Justice says, 'Some cases are being politicized.' Isn't it your government that is politicizing these cases? You are the ones who are blatantly politicizing both the judiciary and these cases."

In the continuation of her speech, Hatimoğulları called for, "ECHR and Constitutional Court rulings must be implemented. All our friends being tried in the Kobani conspiracy case and the Gezi Park protest case must be released immediately."

THE COMMISSION NEEDS TO GO TO İMRALI

Addressing the process commission established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Hatimoğulları stated that the commission should go to İmralı to meet with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, saying:

"Why shouldn't politics go where the state goes? Why shouldn't the political institution take the most active role in such a historical issue? Look, this process has been ongoing for 13 months and we haven't received any news of death. Isn't this a great source of happiness and motivation for us?

Is it right to bypass an actor like Öcalan or to include him more in the process? The answer is clear. That Öcalan can fully play his role, and that the will he puts forward can turn into a common gain for our 86 million citizens—this should not just be our demand, but everyone's demand. The commission meeting with Öcalan and listening to him will further accelerate this process and provide much stronger confidence to society."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Tensions between the DEM Party and Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç rose in April during the second opening process, which the government calls a "Terror-Free Turkey."

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları said in a statement on April 29, "The ball is now in the government's court regarding the steps that need to be taken, including Abdullah Öcalan's freedom of communication and work."

Upon this, Minister Tunç replied, "What does 'the ball is in the government's court' mean? We are not playing ball here. There are efforts regarding the elimination of terrorism. One must support these efforts and avoid words that would undermine them."

The response to these words came from DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan; Doğan stated, "Mr. Minister, our goal is to ensure peace, justice, and democracy. We must all take responsibility in this regard. Law, democracy, and justice cannot be achieved through wordplay. The resolution of a historical issue requires seriousness. We invite your ministry to use language and an approach that assumes this historical responsibility. Please, do your job."
