'Solution process' debate in DEM Party: 'Such a call coming from Bahçeli...'

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, following his handshake with DEM Party deputies at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, called for the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, during his party's group meeting, stating: "Let him come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting in Parliament. If he shows this resolve and determination, let the path be wide open for him to benefit from the 'Right to Hope'."

Following this move by Bahçeli, DEM Party's Ömer Öcalan went to İmralı and met with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan. During the meeting, Öcalan sent the message: “The isolation continues. If the conditions are met, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from a ground of conflict and violence to a legal and political ground.”

Following these developments, which drew public reaction, all eyes turned to the DEM Party front.

According to a report by Gazete Duvar, it was learned that there is 'cautious optimism' within the DEM Party. Pointing to the harsh statements Bahçeli has made against the DEM Party in the past, DEM Party officials commented: “Everyone is saying let's not roll up our sleeves before seeing the stream. We are all cautious. But it is very important that such a call is coming from Bahçeli for the first time. Our voters are confused and very curious. To turn that curiosity into hope, a transparent process must be operated where collective wisdom is at work, the will of Parliament is activated, and different segments of society participate and take ownership. For this reason, we characterize these developments as a discussion, not a process. If it is to evolve into a process, we are ready to take responsibility.”
