DEM Party Tatvan Mayor Mümin Erol released: 'Attempts are being made to discredit our party'

DEM Party Tatvan Mayor Mümin Erol, who was detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Tatvan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been released.

Mayor Erol, who already has an ongoing case against him for 'insulting the President' after he previously removed a photograph of President Erdoğan from his office, was detained as part of two separate investigations launched due to remarks he made about the President during a press conference in Tatvan.

Erol, who was detained by police around noon today due to two separate investigations launched by the Tatvan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for 'insulting the President and a public official,' was taken to the Tatvan Courthouse to provide a statement. After testifying to the prosecutor regarding the investigation files, Erol was released.

MADE A STATEMENT UPON LEAVING THE COURTHOUSE

Speaking to the press after leaving the courthouse, Tatvan Mayor Mümin Erol stated that he had provided testimony regarding two separate investigations opened against him for insulting the President and a public official due to remarks made at a meeting approximately 7-8 months ago. Stating that he is continuing his duties, Erol said, 'Without any legal justification, the opposition—especially our party and our municipalities—is being targeted for discredit through an instrumentalized judiciary based on baseless allegations.'
