Demand for 'party congress' emerges from Özgür Özel's meeting with Party Assembly members: Wait until after Eid al-Adha
Özgür Özel, who was removed from his position as CHP Chairman following an 'absolute nullity' ruling, held a meeting with Party Assembly (PM) members whose positions were also vacated by the same ruling.
The meeting, held at the CHP Headquarters under Özel's chairmanship, lasted approximately 6 hours.
According to information obtained from party sources regarding the meeting, it will be expected that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was reinstated as CHP Chairman by the court, announces a decision for a party congress by the end of Eid al-Adha.
If this does not occur, signatures will be collected from delegates for an extraordinary elective congress on the first Monday following Eid al-Adha.
According to the CHP Charter, the Chairman must call an extraordinary congress upon their own decision, a decision by the PM, or an application by one-fifth of the total number of congress delegates with notarized signatures within a 15-day period; the extraordinary congress must be held within a maximum of 45 days, provided that it is announced to the relevant parties at least 15 days in advance.
