Demirtaş calls for the dismissal of the TURKSTAT President
While TURKSTAT President Çetinkaya has drawn backlash for his statement on inflation rates, economist Özgür Demirtaş stated that he should be dismissed due to his remarks.
Following the Turkish Statistical Institute's (TURKSTAT) announcement of June inflation at 1.64 percent, which clarified the salary increases for retirees and civil servants, the calculations made by TURKSTAT President Erhan Çetinkaya continue to face criticism.
Stating that there is no difference between inflation being 75 percent and 45 percent, Çetinkaya said the following:
"Prices are rising. There is no difference in terms of the pain caused between a product that costs 100 TL becoming 175 TL or 145 TL a year later. It might be psychological, perhaps. I am saying this both as the President of TURKSTAT and as a citizen; it is a mathematical reality."
ECONOMIST DEMİRTAŞ CRITICIZED
Economist Özgür Demirtaş took this inflation rate calculation by TURKSTAT President Çetinkaya to his social media account and criticized it.
Demirtaş stated, "A TURKSTAT president who makes such a statement cannot remain in office. He must be dismissed immediately."
