Democrat Party Aydın Metropolitan Mayoral candidate Hüseyin Turgut celebrates Women's Day by distributing parsley

Noting that although March 8 is celebrated as Women's Day, we live in a world where the value of women is increasingly being diminished, Democrat Party Aydın Metropolitan Mayoral Candidate Hüseyin Turgut stated that women cannot be made happy by distributing flowers on just one day of the year.

Arguing that the purpose of Women's Day celebrations should be to discuss 'what happened regarding women's rights last year, the measures that need to be taken in the coming year, and plans for women,' Turgut said, “A single carnation costs at least 50 liras, which is the price of 4 bunches of parsley. Women are the ones who feel the current economic hardship the most. I think parsley, not carnations, tells the story of the hardships being experienced. Of course, all flowers should be sacrificed for our women. However, we must also talk about the realities. I chose to celebrate our women's day with parsley to bring to light and voice the truths that are being tried to be covered up” he said.

Claiming that many politicians celebrating Women's Day today are playing perception games rather than truly celebrating, Turgut said, “First, one must touch consciences. It is our promise to all dear women. We are interested in your reality. While the kitchen is on fire, they are mocking our intelligence with carnations even today. I ask on Women's Day: with the money spent on election campaigns by those in local and central government, how many women's problems could have been solved?” he said, adding that he expects support from women on March 31.
