Demolition of illegal structures continues on the Bosphorus
Demolition efforts initiated against unauthorized construction along the Bosphorus are being carried out intensively in the Bebek area.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) continues to implement its demolition decisions against illegal construction along the Bosphorus line. Demolition operations are being carried out in prominent neighborhoods such as Bebek, Arnavutköy, Kuruçeşme, and Ortaköy due to structures that have been expanded toward the sea without permission and floors that have been added illegally. The demolition work in these regions was captured from the air.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism took action following reports of unauthorized construction in these neighborhoods of the Beşiktaş district, along the coastline stretching from the Bebek Mosque to the 15 July Martyrs Bridge.
Following reports reaching the Regional Conservation Board Directorate, field studies conducted by expert teams resulted in decisions being made regarding a total of 106 properties during the Conservation Board meetings held since the beginning of 2025.
In line with these decisions, criminal complaints were filed regarding unauthorized interventions in 49 properties. Furthermore, while information and documentation were requested for 42 files concerning unregistered properties, the implementation of previously issued board decisions was requested for 15 properties. The inspections identified violations such as illegal floors, unauthorized terraces, and roof openings in some businesses along the Bosphorus.
İBB teams also intervened at a historic patisserie in Bebek, which was among the areas where a demolition decision had been issued.
