Demolition shock for society favorite: Decision made for Bebek Hotel

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has tightened its inspections as part of its fight against illegal construction across Turkey. Field surveys conducted in the Bebek, Arnavutköy, Kuruçeşme, and Ortaköy districts of the Bosphorus identified 106 structures that violate zoning regulations.

The Cultural Heritage Preservation Board detected unauthorized modifications at the Bebek Hotel, which is located in one of the most prestigious spots on the Bosphorus.

DEMOLITION ORDER ISSUED FOR SOCIETY'S HOTEL ON THE BOSPHORUS

According to the Preservation Board's technical report, the Bebek Hotel deviated from its building plan by removing stairs to add an elevator, converting the attic into a full floor, and using the roof as a terrace.

Additionally, a new two-story section was constructed on the sea-facing side. Various interventions made to the facade were also included in the report.

According to a report by Yeniçağ, the Board issued a demolition order for the Bebek Hotel after detecting illegal construction. The Bebek Hotel management opposed the demolition order and applied to the administrative court. The court issued a stay of execution. However, the Ministry appealed to a higher court for the cancellation of this decision.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism challenged this decision and requested that the demolition proceed.

The future of the Bebek Hotel will be determined by the decision of the Istanbul Regional Administrative Court. The Ministry continues its inspections against illegal construction not only on the Bosphorus but also in historical regions such as Cappadocia. Luxury structures on the Bosphorus have been placed under strict surveillance regarding their compliance with zoning regulations.
