Threat to journalists from Ülkü Ocakları Deputy Chairman Burak Kılıç: He made a post with a 'bullet' reference

The interim decision has been announced in the murder trial of former Ülkü Ocakları Chairman Sinan Ateş, who was killed in Ankara. In the trial where 22 detained defendants are being tried, 10 people were released.

Following the announcement of the interim decision, Ülkü Ocakları Deputy Chairman Burak Kılıç targeted the journalists covering the hearing with a post he made on his social media account.

Sharing a photo of İsmail Saymaz, Erk Acarer, Barış Terkoğlu, Alican Uludağ, and Timur Soykan, Kılıç made a post with a 'bullet' reference.

"YOU WILL SURELY SEE ONE DAY THAT LEAD PENCILS..."

In his post, Kılıç used the phrases, “We are not fountain pens filled by EU and US funds; we are lead pencils. You will surely see one day that lead pencils will also prevail!”

Barış Pehlivan and Timur Soykan responded to Kılıç's post.

"HE WENT TO CONDUCT RECONNAISSANCE IN FRONT OF ATEŞ'S HOUSE ON APRIL 8, 2022"

Quoting Kılıç's post, Pehlivan stated the following:

"Ülkü Ocakları Deputy Chairman Burak Kılıç, who made this post with a 'bullet' reference, went to conduct reconnaissance in front of Sinan Ateş's house in Ankara's Yenimahalle district on April 8, 2022, and sent photos and videos of the location to Tolgahan Demirbaş. On the day Sinan Ateş was killed, Kılıç sent a message to Tolgahan Demirbaş at 15:16 saying, 'Come to my room, brother.' Demirbaş spoke with him on the phone twice, at 17:55 and 17:57."

"WE KNOW WHAT HE MEANS FROM THE AMBUSH SET FOR ATEŞ"

Journalist Timur Soykan stated the following in his post on X:

“Ülkü Ocakları Deputy Chairman Burak Kılıç, who made the tweet below, took photos of the house of Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş, before Sinan Ateş was killed and sent them to Tolgahan Demirbaş. We know what he means by 'lead' pencil from the ambush set for Sinan Ateş. Our pens only write for the public's right to information. Their fountain pens are full of blood. He draws the audacity to threaten journalists like this in a mafia order from the fact that he is not a defendant in the Sinan Ateş murder case.”

"YOU CANNOT BE A LEAD PENCIL, ONLY A LEAD SOLDIER!"

Barış Terkoğlu also gave a harsh response to Kılıç's threatening post.

“You cannot be a lead pencil, only a lead soldier!” said Terkoğlu, adding, “If you want to do one last service to your country and your cause, go to the prosecutor's office or the police station. Raise your hands and say, 'I have come to surrender.' Tell them who sent you to conduct reconnaissance in front of Sinan Ateş's house on April 8, 2022.”

The entirety of Terkoğlu's post is as follows:

"You have attacked those who say 'fully independent Turkey' with machetes. You have shot those who say 'down with imperialism.' While chasing your own country's workers who want a small raise, citizens who want freedom, and youth who want a humane life on the streets; you have been working with the drug dealers of international barons who poison your own nation.

Now, in your own mind, you are threatening men who have fought against gangs that have entrenched themselves in the state in every period of their lives. If asked, you won't even be able to stand behind it, you'll say I quoted someone or other.

You cannot be a lead pencil, only a lead soldier! If asked, you are a nationalist, but you neither know your nation's language, nor defend its culture, nor share its bread. You only understand gathering ten people to commit a crime in the name of the cause.

If you want to do one last service to your country and your cause, go to the prosecutor's office or the police station. Raise your hands and say, 'I have come to surrender.' Tell them who sent you to conduct reconnaissance in front of Sinan Ateş's house on April 8, 2022. Explain what you talked about in that room with your superiors after the murder.

I know, then, they will link both you and the police officer or prosecutor who records your testimony, if they have the courage, to a foreign country, associate you with a terrorist organization, and exile you from place to place. But at least you would spend the rest of your life as an honest and honorable person. Furthermore, you would contribute to cleansing the cause you defend from the filth that makes drug dealers kill nationalists.

I know neither you nor your superiors in the organization have the courage for this. But the fault is not yours, the fault lies with those who have made the existence of the great state a doormat under the feet of your gangs!"

Kılıç later deleted his post with the 'bullet' reference in which he targeted the journalists.
