Deputy Minister Gizligider: Precipitation in Turkey has fallen by 26 percent compared to the 30-year average

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ebubekir Gizligider paid a series of visits in Kırklareli. Gizligider first visited Governor Uğur Turan in his office. After receiving information from Turan, Gizligider then visited the AK Party Kırklareli Provincial Headquarters. Following the visit, Gizligider met with mayors at the Teachers' House and attended the Sector Meeting.

Speaking at the meeting held at the Atatürk Soil, Water, and Agricultural Meteorology Research Institute Directorate Meeting Hall, Gizligider said, "The climate is changing significantly. The climate is truly challenging us. We are trying to experience this difference day by day, year by year, and month by month, and we are trying to overcome it. For example, while most of the questions we received last year were about agricultural irrigation, this year they have started to shift toward drinking water. In other words, the threat is now turning toward drinking water."

Stating that the 30-year average precipitation in the Marmara Region has fallen by 31 percent, Gizligider noted that the average across Turkey has fallen by 26 percent. Gizligider said, "In Kırklareli, there is a 20 percent decrease compared to the 4-year average of precipitation. This year has seen the lowest water levels for the month of June in the last 65 years. These are frightening figures; they alarm me," he said.
