In Istanbul, on May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day, suspects who caused unrest and resisted police despite restriction measures were identified and taken into custody.

Within the scope of the investigation, after their procedures at the police station were completed, 49 of the suspects referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan were arrested by the duty magistrate and sent to prison, while 28 suspects were released under judicial control conditions.

The document stated that in the work carried out by the Istanbul Police Department Security Branch to identify the individuals who attacked security forces with stones and sticks, all security camera footage related to the incident and images reflected in the press were evaluated together to identify the persons.

In the prosecutor's referral document, it was conveyed that the suspects gathered in Saraçhane with the intention of reaching Taksim Square on May 1st, and despite the decision to establish a security line and the prohibition of demonstrations and marches in Taksim Square, the suspects attacked security forces in groups with stones, sticks, and water jugs and showed resistance.

8 POLICE OFFICERS INJURED

In the referral document, which stated that 8 police officers were injured due to the incident, it was also reported that 35 body shields, 77 duty shields, 1 handheld radio, 22 helmets, 23 gas masks, and 1 ZET riot gun were damaged.
