Details of critical Turkey-Israel meeting in Baku emerge: Israeli media announces latest development

As regional activity continues following the war in Syria, a critical meeting between Turkey and Israel took place in Azerbaijan. Officials from the Ministry of National Defense and Israeli officials met in Azerbaijan to hold a series of discussions aimed at establishing a de-escalation mechanism in Syria. 

The purpose of the meetings was defined as reducing tension in Syria and protecting the interests of both countries.

ISRAELI MEDIA ANNOUNCES CRITICAL DEVELOPMENT  

Details of the meeting were reflected in the Israeli media. An Israeli official speaking to the Jerusalem Post shared some key points from the meeting. The Israeli official emphasized that the Israeli delegation stated during the meeting that "any change in the deployment of foreign forces in Syria is unacceptable, and specifically, the establishment of Turkish bases in the Palmyra region is a red line."

The message was conveyed that Turkey's military presence in Syria could pose a major risk to Israel.

It was noted that the Israeli delegation participating in the meeting was led by Foreign Minister Tzachi Hanegbi and Syria expert Roman Gofman. Israeli officials assessed that "threats against Israel not only put Israel at risk but also jeopardize the security of the Syrian government."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in Syria and the establishment of the Ahmet Shara government, Turkey and Israel had come face to face over Syria.

Israel had bombed the T4 airbase in the Syrian city of Homs, where Turkey was allegedly planning to establish a new base, and announced that this was a 'message to Ankara'.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who met with US President Donald Trump at the White House, said, "We had good relations with Turkey, but our relations have worsened. We do not want Syria to be used as a base for attacks against Israel by anyone, including Turkey."

Netanyahu stated that they had discussed with Trump what could be done to prevent conflict.

Trump, praising President Erdoğan, said, "I can solve any problem you might have with him, provided that you are reasonable."
