Details of 'terrorism' operation against CHP municipalities revealed: Case opened in 2017

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the CHP-run Sarıyer and Şişli municipalities on the allegation that they “provided financing to the DHKP-C through tenders between 2014 and 2016.” 

İsmail Arı from BirGün has reached the details of the investigation. A total of 32 people were detained in simultaneous raids conducted on 34 addresses, including 15 district municipalities in Istanbul as well as the provinces of Samsun, Bursa, and İzmir. 

According to BirGün, the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was opened in 2017. The prosecutor's office requested a 24-hour restriction on the detainees' meetings with their lawyers. The court accepted this request. 

The decision of the Criminal Judgeship of Peace included the following statements:

“In relation to the investigation conducted against the suspects registered in the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office file for the crimes of being a member of the DHKP-C terrorist organization and violating the law on the prevention of the financing of terrorism, it has been decided to restrict the suspects' meetings with their defense counsel for 24 hours from the moment of their apprehension, in accordance with Article 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK).”
