Detained on charges of obscenity: The sentence given to Mükremin Gezgin has been announced

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation into social media influencer Mükremin Gezgin due to a video he shared on social media. While the statements he used toward young children in the video drew public backlash, the footage spread rapidly on social media.

Gezgin, who was detained in Ankara as part of the investigation, was referred to the courthouse following police processing. In the video subject to the charges, Gezgin, who used phrases such as "I am a woman, aren't I?" toward the children, was requested to be tried on charges of "lewd acts" and "obscenity" due to his conduct in the video.

The Ministry of Family and Social Services also intervened regarding the video. The Ministry filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office, stating that the footage in question constituted a violation in terms of children's rights and public morality. The complaint requested that the footage be evaluated under the scope of "obscenity" and "lewd acts."

Mükremin Gezgin, whose statement was taken by the prosecutor's office, was sentenced to house arrest with judicial control conditions by the court he was brought before.
