Detention warrants issued for 60 people who participated in protests for İmamoğlu in İzmir! Political party members among them
Detention warrants have been issued for 60 people who participated in protests for Ekrem İmamoğlu in İzmir.
The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has taken action against those who participated in protests held across the city following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Accordingly, it was decided to detain 60 people, including members of some political parties.
In a statement regarding the investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau, the following was noted:
"As a result of the operation carried out on April 30, 2025, to apprehend a total of 60 suspects identified as having attacked security forces with stones/sticks and provoked groups during the protest actions that began on March 19, 2025, and as having engaged in propaganda for the armed terrorist organizations DHKP/C, THKP/C, TKP/ML, and DEV-YOL on social media platforms, 41 suspects have been apprehended, and efforts regarding the fugitive suspects are ongoing."
41 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY
According to the information obtained, members of the Left Party (SOL Parti), the Labour Party (EMEP), and the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), as well as some union members, are among the suspects.
41 people were taken into custody during the raids carried out by police and gendarmerie teams. Efforts to locate the remaining 19 individuals are continuing.
STATEMENT FROM THE BAR ASSOCIATION
The İzmir Bar Association issued a statement reacting to the detentions.
"Exercising Democratic Rights Is Not a Crime.
Release Those Detained Immediately!
As of this morning, we have learned that many of our citizens have been detained in connection with the protests in March.
We do not accept the attempt to silence and intimidate our citizens who exercise their democratic rights through detention/arrest practices, and we state once again that we stand with all our citizens in custody.
Release those detained immediately!"
