Did Mehmet Şimşek resign: Erol Mütercimler had brought it up, official statement issued
The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation (DDM) issued a statement regarding claims that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek had resigned. The statement said, "Do not give credence to reports circulated to create anxiety and distrust in the markets."
Today, social media was shaken by reports that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek had resigned. The claim in question was put forward by academic and author Erol Mütercimler.
Mütercimler said, "I was at an important meeting on Sunday. I learned very important information there. Mehmet Şimşek had resigned two weeks ago, but as you know, there is a Vice President, Cevdet Yılmaz, who intervened and they barely convinced him to stay."
'DO NOT GIVE CREDENCE TO DISINFORMATIVE REPORTS'
Following Mütercimler's claim that Şimşek had resigned, the Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation (DDM) made a statement on the matter, saying, "The claim shared by some social media accounts that 'Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek wanted to resign from his post' is not true."
The statement included the following: "Claims that Minister Şimşek decided to resign from his post and remained in office after being persuaded do not reflect the truth. Do not give credence to disinformative reports that are intentionally circulated to create anxiety and distrust in the markets."
