Diploma investigation also hits journalist on Erdoğan's plane
An additional investigation decision has been made for 6 people as part of the diploma investigation launched into Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose university diploma was cancelled. It has been learned that Milliyet Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Özay Şendir is among these 6 people.
Istanbul University has cancelled the diplomas of 28 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The cancellation of the diplomas was based on the grounds of "non-existence" and "clear error."
It has emerged that an additional investigation decision was made for 6 people in the diploma investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and that one of these names is Özay Şendir, the Editor-in-Chief of Milliyet Newspaper, known for his proximity to the government.

Şendir, who participates in the plane interviews of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stated in his column in Milliyet: "We knew that Istanbul University had prepared a cancellation list of 28 people regarding lateral transfers. Yesterday, it emerged that a list of 57 people had been prepared. The diplomas of 28 of them were cancelled, it was determined that 10 had deleted their registration, and an additional investigation decision was made regarding six people. One of the six people for whom an additional investigation will be conducted is me."
Emphasizing that he had not received a call from the university or the prosecutor's office and that not a single question had been asked of him, Şendir said, "In the study conducted by Istanbul University, it was stated that my registration was made on 31.01.1990, outside the lateral transfer date specified in the regulation, and therefore additional examination was needed."
