Directive from terrorist Mazlum Abdi: Mandatory Kurdish signage in the region

The so-called autonomous administration established by the PYD-YPG, the Syrian wing of the terrorist organization PKK, has taken a notable decision in the city of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), where an Arab majority resides. A requirement has been imposed on all shopkeepers to display Kurdish signs at their places of business.

It was reported that the decision was taken through a joint initiative by the so-called Kobani Municipal Council and the Kurdish Language Institute. Accordingly, it is required that Kurdish phrases be added alongside existing signs written in Arabic.

DIRECTIVE FROM MAZLUM ABDİ

The implementation of the decision was directly managed by Mazlum Abdi, the head of the SDF (so-called Syrian Democratic Forces), which is the military wing of the PYD-YPG. Local security units affiliated with the SDF and municipal employees notified all shopkeepers of the decision.

Shopkeepers have been given two months to comply with the decision. Within this period, they are required to prepare their Kurdish signs. It was reported that penal sanctions will be applied to businesses that do not comply by the end of the given period.

ARAB POPULATION DISCOMFORTED

The public in Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), which is predominantly Arab, is uncomfortable with the implementation. The signage decision is being interpreted as an interference in the city's demographic structure and a linguistic imposition. Local sources report that the decision creates pressure on Arab shopkeepers and could negatively affect daily commercial activities.

A NEW STEP BY THE YPG, STRENGTHENED BY ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE US

The SDF, led by Mazlum Abdi, operates as the armed force of the so-called administration established by the YPG in northern Syria.
