DİSK-AR: Minimum wage has eroded by 1,112 liras

The Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey Research Center (DİSK-AR) has published a report regarding the erosion of wages following January inflation. According to the report, the minimum wage has eroded by 1,112 TL against inflation in just the first month of the year. 

The report states that the total loss in labor income caused by inflation in January 2025, which was measured by TUIK at 5.03 percent monthly, amounted to 69.8 billion liras. 

During the same period, the loss in worker wages due to inflation was calculated at 37.7 billion liras, while the loss in civil servant salaries was calculated at 17.7 billion liras, and the loss in pension payments was 14.3 billion liras.

Key data from the report are as follows:

-The minimum wage eroded by 1,112 liras against inflation in the first month.

-One-quarter of a wage at one and a half times the minimum wage went to taxes, deductions, and inflation before it even reached the pocket.

-An employee earning three times the minimum wage suffered an inflation loss of nearly 3,000 liras in January 2025.

-The deduction and inflation loss for the minimum wage in January 2025 exceeds 5,000 liras.
