Striking report from DİSK/Genel-İş EMAR: One in every 2 people is poor

The government is ignoring the impact of the economic crisis on society. Inflation, the high cost of living, and constantly rising housing rents have, to put it mildly, decimated the middle class.

The DİSK-Genel-İş Labor Research Department (EMAR) has published its May "Income Inequality and Poverty" report; the report highlights that impoverishment is increasing and deepening.

According to information on the official website of the Genel-İş | DİSK/Genel-İş Union, the continuous rise in inflation alongside the recent economic crisis is negatively affecting the humane working and living conditions of employees. Rising inflation reduces purchasing power, making it difficult to meet basic needs, and economic uncertainties are deepening. This situation leads to an increase in the number of families struggling to make a living, deepens poverty and indebtedness, and causes a breakdown in social balance and justice in society. In this report, the income distribution inequalities and increasing poverty caused by the economic crisis felt in every area of life were evaluated in light of current data.
