DİSK President criticizes 'austerity package'

Arzu Çerkezoğlu, President of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), criticized the government's austerity measures via her social media account. 

In her message published under the title “There is no justice in austerity either!”, Çerkezoğlu stated: “The announced measures are a harbinger of more difficult days for workers, laborers, and retirees. The package does not include the exorbitant payments made to crony contractors; it does not include the luxury palace expenditures defended under the guise of 'there is no austerity in prestige'; and most importantly, it does not include ending the tax concessions granted to capital. Under the name of public austerity, there is austerity in public services—from healthcare workers in hospitals to teachers in schools—services that we cannot benefit from in a qualified manner despite paying our taxes.”

"THIS FANCY PACKAGE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FOOL ANYONE"

Emphasizing that there will be more precarious employment under the name of public austerity, the DİSK President said the following:

And worst of all, they are preparing to dress up this package and say, “look, we are practicing austerity, now it is the workers', laborers', and retirees' turn.” The “public austerity package” is the packaging and dressing up of the unjust policies of those who are preparing to make this public pay a higher price with the support of the IMF and capital. This fancy package will not be able to fool anyone! We will grow the struggle for justice in income and taxation.
