A scuffle broke out between police and young protesters who were demonstrating against a conference held by Nureddin Yıldız at Boğaziçi University, who had previously stated that 'a 6-year-old child can be married.'

Journalist Murat Ağırel, quoting the statement issued by the Istanbul Governor's Office regarding the events, said, "Students at Boğaziçi University protested Nureddin Yıldız's conference. The police intervened. Students were detained with reverse handcuffs. Journalist Can Öztürk was also beaten and detained. According to the Governor's Office statement, 97 students were detained."

RESPONSE FROM GOVERNOR GÜL

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül responded to Ağırel's post. Making a statement on his social media account, Davut Gül said, "It did not happen exactly like that. Today at Boğaziçi University, a group of protesters trying to block Nureddin Yıldız's conference attempted to breach the security perimeter of the riot police. As a result of the physical intervention by the protesters, 13 of our police officers fell into a construction pit approximately 5 meters deep and were injured. 97 people have been detained in connection with the incident."
