Diyanet President Erbaş: If it's death, then death; if it's execution, then execution
Diyanet President Erbaş attended the 7th Ahi Evran Symposium held at the Ahi Evran Congress and Culture Center of Ahi Evran University in Kırşehir.
Diyanet President Ali Erbaş, in his statement regarding the murder of Narin Güran, said, “Is there a deterrent in the laws? You can give a thousand-year sentence if you want. The person says, 'I'll serve my time, they provide my food and water anyway.'
It needs to be a deterrent; if it's death, then death; if it's execution, then execution,” he said.
In his speech there, touching upon the 8-year-old Narin Güran who was murdered in Diyarbakır, Erbaş said the following:
“Laws need to be a deterrent. They murdered our 8-year-old girl. What will happen if her killer is identified? No matter how many years they serve. Will our pain subside?
Will we have implemented a law that has a deterrent effect? You see what is being done to 2-year-old babies.
What murders are being committed. Is there a deterrent in the laws? You can give a thousand-year sentence if you want. The person says, 'I'll serve my time, they provide my food and water anyway.' It needs to be a deterrent; if it's death, then death; if it's execution, then execution. The third is the otherworldly sanction. Consciousness of the afterlife.”
