Diyanet, which omitted Atatürk from its sermon, issues 30 August message: This time they commemorated Atatürk

The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) became the target of intense criticism for once again failing to mention the name of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, in its Friday sermon that coincided with the 103rd anniversary of the 30 August Victory Day.

This stance by Diyanet, which has displayed the same attitude during national holidays, sparked reactions among the public.

STATEMENT CAME AFTER THE BACKLASH

Following the intense criticism, Diyanet included Atatürk in a celebratory message published on its official social media accounts. The message stated, "We commemorate all the heroes of our struggle for independence, especially Commander-in-Chief Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, with gratitude and appreciation."

"VICTORY IS PROOF THAT OUR NATION CAN NEVER BE ENSLAVED"

In its statement, Diyanet emphasized the historical significance of 30 August:

"The 30 August Victory is the clearest symbol that our noble nation can never be enslaved. It is our most fundamental duty to pass on the faith and spirit behind this victory to future generations. Uniting around our common values and working for the peace and prosperity of our nation are also among our responsibilities."
