Diyanet's expenditures surpass universities
It has been revealed that the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), which already outspends many ministries with its budget, utilized as much funding as the total expenditures of 76 universities.
The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) spent 55.6 billion TL in the 6-month period.
According to a report by Mustafa Bildircin from Birgün, while 128 state universities spent 195 billion 135 million 600 thousand TL in the January-July 2024 period, it was revealed that Diyanet utilized as much funding as the total expenditures of 76 universities.
Accordingly, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, which spent 55 billion 659 million 847 thousand TL in the January-July 2024 period, used one-third of the total expenditures of 128 universities.
The total expenditure of 76 universities, including Turkey's long-established institutions such as METU, ITU, Boğaziçi, Ankara, and Hacettepe, was recorded as 55 billion 161 million 517 thousand TL for the January-July period.
In the January-July 2024 period, when the Presidency of Religious Affairs used 55.6 billion TL in funding, the expenditures of some universities were as follows:
- METU: 2 billion 571 million TL
- Ankara University: 6 billion 83 million TL
- Hacettepe University: 5 billion 328 million TL
- ITU: 2 billion 694 million TL
- Boğaziçi University: 1 billion 712 million TL
