Diyarbakır Bar Association President's statement on the Narin Güran murder: 'The perception that Narin was kidnapped was negligence'

Ten people, including 8 family members, have been arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of Narin Güran.

As the investigation, which has become a major topic in Turkey, continues, Diyarbakır Bar Association President Nahit Eren made striking statements.

Eren announced that they have applied to the file as complainants, stating, "Since all family members are in the position of suspects in this case file and cannot gain the status of complainant because they are under arrest, we have requested to be included in the file in an official capacity as complainants."

CRITICIZED THE LEAKING OF TESTIMONIES

Eren reacted to the leaking of interrogation transcripts during the investigation. He emphasized that this situation would benefit the perpetrators during the process.

Drawing attention to Narin Güran's family members, Eren spoke as follows:

"When Nevzat was taken into custody, a perception was shared with the public as if he were a secret witness, as if he were a confessor. This is not true.

The first suspicion regarding family members unfortunately arose 8 days after the incident.

In all our past experiences, we know very well that in cases like this, close family members, neighbors, or people in the surrounding area are often tried as suspects or perpetrators when the time comes.

However, for some reason, neither the investigative authorities nor the law enforcement units acted on such a suspicion or fact from the very first moment the incident was reported.

A perception that Narin had been kidnapped was created almost entirely based on tips they received and the statements of so-called witnesses who misled them.

In our opinion, this is a significant deficiency and negligence in terms of the course of the investigation.

Narin was killed between 15:15 and 15:40, and was put into a bag by Nevzat.

It was announced that the blood sample found on the rocks in the village belonged to a child in the neighborhood due to a nosebleed, but based on what scientific data was this done?

There is no such report. They are acting only on the statements of the villagers."

Eren said, "Enes Güran was taken into custody because of the marks on his body. He was also sent to Istanbul. But the report from the forensic medicine institute returned without any DNA identification regarding the marks on his arm and back. Afterwards, the press reported on who these marks belonged to. However, no determination had been made at all."

"NARIN'S LEG WAS SEVERED, NO FLESH REMAINED"

Reminding that he also attended the autopsy, Eren also evaluated the reports that one of Narin Güran's legs was severed when she was found:

"Nevzat Bahtiyar, I state this with regret, says in his interrogation transcript that one of her legs was left outside. That leg was severed. It is true. Again, when we look at the prosecutor's report, I want to explain to you that there was no flesh left on that leg. The fact that there was no flesh on the part below the knee is a sign of intervention by a living creature from the outside."

In response to a journalist's question, "So, an animal intervention from the outside?", Eren repeated that "the body inside the bag, despite being deformed, maintained its integrity, but there was no flesh on the leg."

'THERE IS NO REPORT ON THE BLOOD SAMPLE ON THE ROCKS'

Eren continued as follows:

"It was said that the blood on the rocks did not belong to Narin. We are still waiting for the results of the blood samples in the file. Based on what scientific data was this statement made? We understand that this statement was made based on the statements taken from the villagers."

'SALIM GÜRAN SHOULD BE CALLED FOR TESTIMONY AGAIN'

Eren said that in light of the new evidence that has emerged, uncle Salim Güran should urgently be called to testify again.

'ALL TESTIMONIES CONTRADICT EACH OTHER'

"This is very clear," said Eren, "Especially as of August 29, when Enes was taken into custody... The meetings held in the village afterwards, which were also reflected in the press. A consensus is reflected in the interrogation transcripts. What kind of testimony they should give was conveyed to them on the first day. The way the events occurred, in terms of place and time, completely contradicts. All the testimonies contradict each other," he said.

'REPORT FROM ISTANBUL IS STILL AWAITED'

Nahit Eren said that it was normal that DNA samples of other people were not found on Narin Güran's body, which had remained in the water, in the initial stages; he said that examinations on the 91 samples taken are continuing. Eren emphasized that the final report from the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute is awaited.
