DMM responds to claims that a 'New City' will be established in Istanbul
The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has issued a statement regarding claims circulating in some media outlets and social media accounts that a new district named 'New City' will be established in Istanbul, covering the area around the Kanal İstanbul route and Istanbul Airport.
In a statement made from the DMM's social media account, it was stated, "The claims circulating in some media outlets and social media accounts that a new district named 'New City' will be established in Istanbul, covering the area around the Kanal İstanbul route and Istanbul Airport, are unfounded. There is no suchclaims regarding the establishment of such a district are untrueand arespeculative in nature, intended to misleadthe public.
First and foremost; in accordance with Article 2 of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442,the establishment, abolition, determination of centers, and renaming of provinces and districts,as well as the transfer of a districtfrom one province to another, are procedures governed by specific legal regulations.The connection of a district to anotherprovince can only be carried out by law. Theclaims put forward in theaforementioned reports, that the Ministry of Interior or any other institution is establishing a new district in IstanbulThere is noworkunderway regarding the establishment of adistrict.
