Donation debate grows: Fatih Altaylı demands, Haluk Levent responds with a date

Journalist Fatih Altaylı’s demand for a detailed explanation of the donations sent to the Ahbap Association after the February 6 earthquakes has sparked a new debate on social media, prompting an important statement from Ahbap President Haluk Levent. Levent announced that they will present all income and expenditure items of the aid collected during the earthquake period to the public via social media.

In a recent assessment, Altaylı referred to the promise Haluk Levent made during the earthquake days that "every penny will be accounted for." Emphasizing that there is no clear financial breakdown on the association's website after three years, Altaylı stated:

"Three years have passed. I do not know what Haluk Levent did with the earthquake aid he promised to 'account for down to the last penny.' There is no clear information or financial breakdown regarding this issue on Ahbap’s website. Haluk Levent must disclose all financial reports as promised and account to the Turkish people, penny by penny, for the approximately 7 billion TL or 158 million dollars in today's currency that Ahbap collected for the earthquake."

These criticisms have brought the Ahbap Association and Haluk Levent back to the center of the agenda. In an announcement on his social media account, Levent stated that they would provide a comprehensive response to the economic allegations and doubts regarding the distribution of earthquake donations that have come up in recent days. In the same statement, he underlined that the association's accounts are regularly audited by the Ministry of Interior.

Haluk Levent used the following expressions in his statement:

"My friends! My economic issues have been discussed for a few days. Naturally, questions have started to arise regarding the distribution of donations made to Ahbap during the earthquake period. In recent months, all association accounts for the earthquake period were examined and audited by Ministry of Interior inspectors. To ensure there is not the slightest doubt left in anyone's mind, I have decided to explain these works item by item, down to the last penny, on my social media accounts. This post will be made on all my social media accounts on Thursday at 20:00."

Levent’s move also once again shared with the public the information that Ahbap is officially subject to periodic audits. Furthermore, the artist had previously clearly stated that his own commercial activities were not connected to the Ahbap Association, saying, "My personal business dealings are separate, and the Ahbap Association is completely separate."

All eyes are now on the date when Haluk Levent will release the detailed financial table and expenditure reports he promised.
