Downpour destroys bridge
A highway bridge over the Zeytinli Creek in the Edremit district of Balıkesir has collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
According to the information obtained, the bridge collapsed after one of its support piers was destroyed by the impact of rainwater flowing from the Kaz Mountains.
The fact that no vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collapse prevented potential loss of life and property.

Following the incident, gendarmerie, municipal police, and fire department teams were dispatched to the area, closing the road to traffic and taking security measures.

Teams have set up barriers on the old Çanakkale - Balıkesir highway and are not allowing vehicles or pedestrians to cross the bridge.

Teams from the Balıkesir Metropolitan and Edremit Municipality Departments of Science Affairs prevented further incidents by using trucks to pile soil at both entrances of the collapsed bridge.
