Former Istanbul MP Dursun Çiçek, who announced he will be a candidate in the primary election the CHP will hold to determine its presidential candidate, made a statement regarding the candidacy process. Çiçek said, "We will reach the sufficient number of signatures."
Former Istanbul MP Dursun Çiçek, who announced his candidacy for the primary election the CHP will hold to determine its presidential candidate for the next general elections, answered journalists' questions at the Parliament.
Visiting the Parliament to meet with the CHP Group leadership, Çiçek stated that his meetings with MPs to secure the necessary signatures are ongoing.
Çiçek made the following statements:
"A primary with a single candidate is neither democratic nor ethical. Forcing a primary with a single candidate puts both our party and the election in a difficult position. We are experienced in primaries. In 2015, we came in second in the 2nd District in the Istanbul primary. This time, together with Mr. İmamoğlu, and hopefully other candidates who will emerge, we will all appear before more than 1.5 million CHP members and determine our candidate. We will find the sufficient number of signatures. The fact that the Parliament was closed delayed the process, but we expect to collect them by this evening. If not, we will continue tomorrow."
POSITIVE FEEDBACK FROM 5 MPS
Çiçek stated that out of the 40 MPs from whom he requested support for his candidacy, 5 have provided positive feedback so far.
When reminded that his daughter had announced she would support Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in the primary, Çiçek said, "I respect her opinions. Our family is a democratic family."
