Earthquake Science Board meeting held

It was announced in a post on AFAD's social media account that the Earthquake Science Board meeting had been held. The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of AFAD President Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, with the participation of board member academics and AFAD unit managers.

During the meeting, agenda items were discussed, including the update efforts for the Turkey Building Earthquake Code, the National Earthquake Strategy and Action Plan (UDSEP), the National Earthquake Research Program (UDAP), procedures and principles regarding informing the public about earthquakes, the work of the Earthquake Science Board, and joint projects conducted or planned with universities, faculty members with academic studies on disasters, and relevant institutions and organizations on various topics. Additionally, the participants' views and suggestions were evaluated, and various decisions were taken.

The Earthquake Science Board, which operates within the AFAD Presidency, was established to be prepared for earthquakes, reduce earthquake damage, offer recommendations on activities to be carried out before, during, and after earthquakes, and determine policies and priorities for earthquake-related research. The Earthquake Science Board includes: Prof. Dr. Orhan Tatar (AFAD General Director of Earthquake and Risk Reduction), Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yakut (METU Civil Engineering), Prof. Dr. Nuray Karancı (TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Psychology), Prof. Dr. Alper İlki (ITU Civil Engineering), Prof. Dr. Şerif Barış (Kocaeli University Geophysical Engineering), Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmet Türkdoğan (Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Emergency Medicine), Prof. Dr. Haluk Özener (Istanbul AFAD Provincial Director / Boğaziçi University), Prof. Dr. Ahmet Can Altunışık (Karadeniz Technical University Civil Engineering), Prof. Dr. Şükrü Ersoy (Yıldız Technical University Faculty of Civil Engineering), Prof. Dr. Hasan Sözbilir (Dokuz Eylül University Geological Engineering), Prof. Dr. Tahsin Yomralıoğlu (ITU Geomatics Engineering), Dr. Ömer Emre (Retired from MTA, FUGRO), Prof. Dr. Volkan Karabacak (Eskişehir Osmangazi University Geological Engineering), and Prof. Dr. Bahadır Aktuğ (Ankara University Geophysical Engineering).
